Representative Jill Billings (D-La Crosse) is looking for undergraduate and graduate students interested in interning in the State Capitol for the fall 2017 semester. This policy-focused internship is unpaid but provides valuable political and communications experience, as well as significant insight into the inner workings of state government.
This internship is a great opportunity to get some real exposure to Wisconsin’s policy-making process – our office is fast-paced and actively involved in a wide range of policy issues. Interns in our office have the opportunity to research current issues and legislation, correspond with constituents, and work to find resolutions to constituents’ concerns. With the state’s biennial budget being debated over the next several months, this semester is a particularly fortuitous time to be in a state legislative office.
We’re looking for someone who can commit to at least 8-10 hours per week, so we can assign meaningful and worthwhile projects. Available hours are Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.
Applicants should be detail-oriented, well-organized self-starters with the ability to learn on the job quickly, a deep interest in politics and public policy, and solid critical reading and writing skills.
To apply for this position, please fill out the application (downloadable here) and your resume to Kathy at Kathy.Divine@legis.wisconsin.gov.
Deadline for applications is September 15th, 2017. However, we welcome and will process early submissions.
